Indiana Requires Employers to Use YES for Minors

CTM Client Services Team

Students under the age of 18 are no longer required to obtain a school work permit to get a job in Indiana.

Beginning July 1, 2021, employers with five or more minor employees per location, must use the state’s Youth Employment System (YES) to track and report minor-employment information, such as the employee’s name and age.  Employers will also be responsible for removing the minor’s information from the YES registry once the minor’s employment ends.

Businesses may set up their new accounts throughout June so they are ready to use the registry system on July 1st.  Failure to register minor hires may result in penalties of up to $400 per infraction.  Employers with four or less minor employees are exempt from using YES.
