IRS Extends Federal Tax Deadline

CTM Tax Team

Individual taxpayers have until May 17, 2021, to file their 2020 federal income tax returns after the Treasury Department and IRS extended the April 15th deadline amid COVID concerns. The new deadline also applies to federal tax payments that may be owed for 2020.

As of this early writing, state filing and payment due dates have not changed.  Please check for any changes to your state filing deadlines by clicking HERE or contact our office.

The postponement of the April 15th federal tax deadline is automatic, and no additional forms need to be completed.  If, however, you need additional time, you can still request an extension to October 15, 2021.

Individuals who are required to make estimated tax payments because their current income is not subject to income tax withholding must continue to do so by April 15th.

If you have any further questions about the new federal tax deadline, feel free to contact us at (847) 444-1040 or email domalley@ctm-cpa.com.
