Dr. Edward S. Baum – In Memoriam

CTM expresses it heartfelt sympathies to the Baum family on the passing of Dr. Edward S. Baum on October 3, 2020.  Ed and his wife Ann have been long-time friends and clients of the firm.  Among his many achievements, Ed co-founded the first Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Chicago in 1977.  While working as a pediatric oncologist at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Ed met Charlie Marino, whose daughter was a patient.  Inspired by the first RMH in Philadelphia, Ed and Charlie crafted a plan to open a similar facility in Chicago.  They partnered with CTM Co-Founder Bill Chunowitz, who was the McDonald’s Operators of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (MOCNI) President at the time, and opened the RMH on Deming Place, one year after its inception.  Even after moving to North Carolina, Ed and his family maintained strong ties with the Ronald McDonald House charities.  In 2011, Ed and Ann greatly contributed to the opening of Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.  Ed was a kind and compassionate person, who will be greatly missed.
